ATLANTA, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Johan Santana held Atlanta to a run through five innings before leaving with an injury Thursday and the New York Mets went on to down the Braves 4-2.
Santana (11-9) suffered a strained pectoral muscle and departed with his team clinging to a 2-1 lead. He halted a three-start losing streak by giving up just three hits and striking out three.
New York won for only the third time in nine games.
David Wright added some insurance in the sixth with his 22nd homer of the season and Carlos Beltran drove in a run in the seventh on a fielder's choice grounder.
Hisanori Takahashi allowed a hit in the ninth, but picked up his third save.
The loss went to Tim Hudson (15-6), who had won his previous six decisions and was named the National League Pitcher of the Month earlier in the day.
He gave up four runs on eight hits in seven innings. The Braves had a five-game winning streak snapped.
