COLUMBIA, Mo., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Derrick Washington, a starting tailback for the Missouri Tigers, was "permanently suspended" from the Missouri football program.
Washington was charged with deviate sexual assault Monday for an incident in June in which a woman alleged Washington sexually assaulted her at a Columbia, Mo., apartment complex.
Washington was indefinitely suspended by Tigers Coach Gary Pinkel last week. Wednesday, the university issued a statement reading: "Derrick Washington has been permanently suspended from the University of Missouri football program. Nothing in this decision will affect his existing athletic scholarship as long as he remains enrolled at Mizzou."
Washington, a senior from Raymore, Mo., appeared in 39 games for Missouri, rushing for 2,085 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also caught 65 passes for three more scores. He led the Tigers in rushing each of the last two seasons. His rushing total is 10th on the Tigers' all-time list.
