LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard and Brian Schneider both hit three-run homers Tuesday to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4.
The surging Phillies have won four of their last five and lead San Francisco by 1 1/2 games in the National League wild-card race.
Carlos Ruiz had a two-run single for the Phils and Kyle Kendrick (9-7) battled his way to the win despite giving up four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings.
Dodgers starter Carlos Monasterios (3-5) lasted only two-plus innings and took the loss. He gave up five runs on five hits.
The Phillies fell behind 1-0 after one inning but roared back for three in the second and three more in the third to take a 6-1 lead.
James Loney's two-run homer in the sixth cut the margin to 6-4, but the Phils added two more on Ruiz's pinch-hit single.
