SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Edmonton Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin must spend a month in jail on a drunk driving conviction, an Arizona judge ruled Tuesday.
Scottsdale, Ariz., City Court Judge B. Monte Morgan imposed the sentence after the Russian netminder was convicted Friday of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding, the Edmonton Journal reported.
The newspaper said Khabibulin's attorney has already filed an appeal so the start of the goalie's sentence has been delayed, three weeks before the Oilers open their 2010-11 season training camp.
Khabibulin was found guilty of driving with a blood alcohol count of .08 or more, excessive speeding and extreme driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content of .15 or more, the Journal said.
Police reported they stopped Khabibulin on Feb. 8 near his Paradise Valley, Ariz., home, where they allegedly clocked him driving at 70 mph in a 45-mph zone.
