
ATLANTA, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- David Ross belted a grand-slam homer to highlight a seven-run fifth inning Tuesday that sent the Atlanta Braves to a 9-2 victory over the New York Mets.
Justin Heyward contributed a two-run double and Alex Gonzalez added a run-scoring single in the uprising, which handed the first-place Braves their fourth straight victory.
Derrek Lee went 3-for-3 with an RBI as Atlanta raised its home record to a major league-best 48-18. The Braves entered the game with a three-game lead over second-place Philadelphia in the National League East.
Rookie hurler Mike Minor (3-0) remained undefeated since his Aug. 9 call-up, limiting the Mets to two runs on seven hits in five frames.
Mets starter Jon Niese (8-7) was raked for eight runs (three earned) on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
