LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Outfielder Manny Ramirez has been awarded to the Chicago White Sox, who claimed the slugger off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers said Monday Ramirez, 38, would be sent to the White Sox, who claimed the player when he was put on waivers last week. As part of the transaction, Chicago takes responsibility for the remaining $3.5 million on the outfielder's contract.

Ramirez appeared in 66 games for Los Angeles this season, with his playing time limited by injuries. He's been on the disabled list three times for various leg injuries. His final game with the Dodgers was Sunday when he was thrown out of the game for arguing a call on the first pitch he saw when he was inserted as a pinch-hitter.

For the season, Ramirez is hitting .311 with eight home runs and 40 runs batted in. He's previously played for Cleveland and Boston. Over an 18-year major-league career, Ramirez has a .313 batting average, has hit 554 home runs and has knocked in 1,828 runs.

To fill his spot on the roster, the Dodgers promoted pitcher Ramon Troncoso from their Class AAA affiliate in Albuquerque. Troncoso is 1-2 with a 4.85 earned run average in two previous call-ups.
