CINCINNATI, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Jay Bruce's 10th-inning single scored Brandon Phillips with the winning run Monday, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-4 win over Milwaukee.

Brewers reliever Trevor Hoffman (2-7) issued a lead-off walk to Ryan Hanigan and Phillips was sent in as a pinch-runner. Two outs later, Chris Heisey sent Phillips to third with a single and Bruce's hit scored Phillips with the game-winner.

Bruce ended the game 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.

The rally made a winner of Francisco Cordero (5-4), who tossed a scoreless ninth and nailed down Cincinnati's fourth win in five games.

The victory boosted the Reds to a season-high six-game lead over second-place St. Louis in the National League Central.

Milwaukee starter Randy Wolf yielded three runs on eight hits in five innings.

Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee each had two hits and a run driven in for the Brewers.
