Oilers sign center Gagner to 2-year deal

EDMONTON, Alberta, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The Edmonton Oilers have signed center Sam Gagner to a two-year contract, the team said Sunday.

Gagner, a third-year pro, posted 15 goals and 26 assists in 68 games last year for the Oilers.

"Sam is a key part of our organization moving forward," Edmonton General Manager Steve Tambellini said. "We are looking forward to him taking on a larger role with our club."

Gagner was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft. He has appeared in 223 games and has totaled 44 goals and 87 assists in his Oilers career.
