SEATTLE, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Luke French held the Twins to one run over seven innings Sunday and the Seattle Mariners eked out a 2-1 win over Minnesota.
French (3-4) baffled the Twins on three hits and a walk and striking out four to take his second win in three starts. He bounced back to beat Minnesota after suffering a 4-0 defeat this month in Minneapolis.
Brandon League hurled a scoreless eighth and David Aardsma picked up his 25th save in the ninth.
Franklin Gutierrez delivered a seventh-inning RBI double and Adam Moore drove in the decisive run on a fielder's choice grounder.
Minnesota starter Carl Pavano (15-10) pitched well in defeat, holding the M's to two runs on five hits in seven innings.
Michael Cuddyer homered for Minnesota, which maintained a 4 1/2-game lead over the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.
