NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki won a third-set tiebreak Friday to earn a berth in the championship match of the Pilot Pen.
The top-seeded Wozniacki, who will also carry that distinction into the U.S. Open next week, defeated Elena Dementieva1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in a bid to capture her second straight tournament.
Her opponent in the finals will be Nadia Petrova, who got past Maria Kirilenko 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Petrova has appeared in the finals of a WTA event 20 times, but this will be her first shot at a title since 2008.
Wozniacki won the Rogers Cup last week in Montreal and has captured 14 of her last 15 matches.
