SNOQUALMIE, Wash., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Nick Price shot his low round of the year with a 9-under 63 Friday and took a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Boeing Classic.
Price, a two-time winner on the Champions Tour in 2010, faced a tough test over the weekend with plenty of star power close behind at the TPC-Snoqualmie Ridge course.
Tom Pernice Jr. was alone in second after shooting a 64 and leading money winner Bernhard Langer shared third place with Hal Sutton at 66.
Langer, who has captured two major tournaments this year, celebrated his 53rd birthday Friday.
Mark Wiebe and Gil Morgan both shot 67. Defending champion Loren Roberts and Fred Couples were among those at 68.
Price birdied each of the first four holes to get his round going and then birdied three straight holes beginning at the 15th.
In the five-year history of the tournament, no first-round leader has gone on to win.
