EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A 15-yard scoring throw from Richard Bartel to Larry Johnson with 2:13 remaining Friday gave Washington a 16-11 pre-season win over the New York Jets.
The Redskins had managed only three field goals from Graham Gano before Bartel led Washington on a five-play, 64-yard march with time running down.
It was the only playing time of the game for Bartel, who was 3-of-5 for 44 yards on the drive.
Rex Grossman started at quarterback for Washington and was 8-of-16 for 111 yards. He also lost a fumble that resulted in a safety. Donovan McNabb, who is set to start the regular season for the Redskins, was rested with a sore ankle.
New York's Mark Sanchez was 13-of-21 for 139 yards, a touchdown and an interception. LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene teamed for 142 rushing yards.
The Jets led the NFL in rushing last year en route to the AFC title game.
Washington is 2-1 in the pre-season campaign and the Jets are 1-2.
