
NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Drew Brees demonstrated Friday he is ready for the regular season, throwing for 240 yards and two TDs to lead the New Orleans Saints past San Diego 36-21.
Brees, the MVP of last season's Super Bowl win over Indianapolis, completed 18-of-27 passes in the pre-season contest. He threw first-half touchdowns of 46 yards to Devery Henderson and 15 yards to Robert Meachem, helping the Saints (2-1) to a 17-14 lead at intermission.
Patrick Ramsey came on in the second half to throw for 191 yards and a touchdown. Chris Ivory scored on a 76-yard pass from Ramsey early in the fourth quarter and Leigh Torrence added an 87-yard interception return for the Saints to end the scoring.
Philip Rivers hit on 16-of-27 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown for the Chargers (1-2).
