TORONTO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Homers by Jhonny Peralta and Gerald Laird accounted for five of Detroit's six fourth-inning runs Thursday and lifted the Tigers to a 7-1 win over Toronto.

Peralta hit a three-run blast and Laird had a two-run shot off Ricky Romero, who made his first start since recovering from strep throat.

Detroit won for the sixth time in seven games.

Max Scherzer (10-9) gave up six hits, walked one and struck out eight over eight innings to win his third straight start.

The Tigers broke open a scoreless contest by batting around in the fourth and were helped by a key error early in the inning. With runners on first and second and one away, Ryan Raburn grounded to third baseman Edwin Encarnacion, whose throwing error allowed a run to score.

Peralta followed by hitting his three-run homer to left. Romero then walked Casper Wells before Laird delivered his home run.

Peralta drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, giving him four RBI for the game.

Romero (10-8) suffered his first setback in six starts. He gave up four hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.
