WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Baseball great Roger Clemens is to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Washington Monday on six counts related to alleged false statements before Congress.

Clemens, 48, was named in an indictment made public last week that claimed the six-time Cy Young Award winner lied to the U.S. Congress when testifying about use of performance-enhancing drugs.

An entry on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia's calendar showed Clemens is to appear at 2 p.m. Monday before Judge Reggie Walton for arraignment.

The indictment lists one charge of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury stemming from an appearance before Congress in February 2008. If convicted on all counts, Clemens could be sentenced to 30 years in prison and fined $1.5 million.

After the indictment was opened Aug. 19, Clemens posted a statement on Twitter that he "never took (human growth hormones) or Steroids. And I did not lie to Congress."

Clemens appeared before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Feb. 13, 2008, and said he hadn't used performance-enhancing drugs.
