CHICAGO, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox Wednesday placed relief pitchers J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton on the 15-day disabled list.
Both hurlers have played key roles in Chicago's bid for the American League Central crown. Putz, who is 6-5 with three saves and a 2.68 earned run average in 50 games this season, was taken out of Tuesday's 7-5 victory over Baltimore and later diagnosed with right knee patella tendinitis.
Thornton was shelved due to left elbow inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 18. The lefty posted a 3-4 record with five saves and a 2.66 ERA, also in 50 appearances.
The White Sox activated pitcher Erick Threets from the 15-day DL and recalled pitcher Lucas Harrell from Class AAA Charlotte to replace Putz and Thornton on the roster.
