DENVER, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Todd Helton's eighth-inning single drove in Carlos Gonzalez with the go-ahead run Monday and the Colorado Rockies edged Atlanta 5-4.
The Braves had tied the score 4-4 in the top of the inning on Alex Gonzalez's RBI double but the Rockies stormed right back to reclaim the lead.
Carlos Gonzalez led off with single off Jonny Venters (4-1) and stole second. Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk and Helton followed by lining a pitch up the middle, chasing home Carlos Gonzalez and boosting the Rockies to a win in the first of three games against Atlanta at Coors Field.
Helton finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and Ian Stewart added a two-run homer for the victors.
Rafael Betancourt (4-1) got the win despite blowing an eighth-inning lead and Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.
Martin Prado and Rick Ankiel homered for the Braves, who maintained their 3 1/2-game lead over second-place Philadelphia in the National League East. The Phillies fell to Houston 3-2 Monday.
