NFL: Detroit 25, Denver 20

DENVER, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Drew Stanton raced 25 yards into the end zone late in the fourth quarter Saturday to secure Detroit's 25-20 exhibition win over Denver.

Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was 13-of-18 for 130 yards and a score, and Shaun Hill was 9-of-14 for 93 yards, before Stanton came in and hit on 2-of-4 for 36 yards along with his 31 yards on the ground.

Rookie Jahvid Best ran for 49 yards on eight rushes and Steven Hauschka booted four field goals.

Kyle Orton connected on 16-of-22 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns and an interception just days after getting a contract extension from the Broncos. Brady Quinn was 11-of-17 passes for 115 yards. Rookie Tim Tebow didn't play after hurting his ribs in Denver's last game.

Jabar Gaffney hauled in six passes for 98 yards.

The Lions improved to 1-1 and the Broncos fell to 0-2.
