KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Juan Pierre's RBI double in the 10th inning Saturday gave the Chicago White Sox a 7-6 victory over Kansas City in the second game of a doubleheader.
Gordon Beckham led off the frame with a single off Greg Holland (0-1), was sacrificed to second by Raul Castro and one out later came home when Pierre placed a hit down the right-field line.
J.J. Putz (6-5), who allowed the Royals to tie with a run in the ninth, retired Kansas City 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the win and give the Chisox a split in the doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium.
Castro homered and Alex Rios drove in a pair of runs for Chicago, which remained four games behind Minnesota for first place in the American League Central.
Gregor Blanco went deep and Billy Butler drove in a pair of runs for the Royals.
