Atwal gets first PGA win at Wyndham

GREENSBORO, N.C., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Arjun Atwal earned his first career PGA victory Sunday, carding a 2-under 68 to claim the Wyndham Championship by one stroke.

Atwal finished at 20-under 260, one shot better than David Toms, who closed with a 6-under 64 at Sedgefield Country Club to take second at minus-19.

Atwal, of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, lost his PGA tour status this year, but with the win regained it for the remainder of the season and the next two years as well.

He also became the first Monday-qualifier to win on the PGA Tour in 24 years.

Michael Sim and John Mallinger both registered 8-under 62s to surge into a share of third at 18-under 262.

Justin Leonard (65) and John Rollins (65) also ended knotted for third.
