EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Backup quarterback Byron Leftwich threw a 68-yard scoring pass to Mike Wallace Saturday night in Pittsburgh's 24-17 exhibition win over the New York Giants.
Steelers starter Ben Roethlisberger looked solid in his first pre-season action, completing 6-of-8 passes for 76 yards. Although he was intercepted once, Roethlisberger directed a 13-play, 58-yard scoring drive in the second quarter that produced a 26-yard Jeff Reed field goal.
Isaac Redman and Dwayne Wright ran for touchdowns for Pittsburgh, now 2-0 in exhibition play.
The Giants got a touchdown from Andre Brown, who picked up 61 yards on 13 carries. Ahmad Bradshaw also ran for a score for the 1-1 Giants, who were without starting quarterback Eli Manning, who is recovering from a nasty head gash.
Rhett Bomar took his place, going 13-of-26 for 167 yards.
