MLS: San Jose 1, Los Angeles 0

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Chris Wondolowski scored in the fourth minute Saturday and the San Jose Earthquakes hung on to claim a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy.

After a pass from Bobby Convey went through the box and past Los Angeles goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, Wondolowski was there to poke the ball inside the near post for his eighth goal of the season.

The Galaxy (13-4-4) got its best chance in the 74th minute on a Landon Donovan shot that forced Earthquakes goalie Jon Busch to make a good save.

San Jose (8-6-5) notched its second consecutive win to move up to fourth place in the Western Conference. The Galaxy remain on top the West although they have won only once in four games.
