ST. LOUIS, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Chris Carpenter hurled seven-plus solid innings and Pedro Feliz drove in a pair of runs Saturday in the St. Louis Cardinals' 5-1 win over San Francisco.
Carpenter (14-4) was tough, yielding only one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out four to raise his career record to 4-1 in seven starts against the Giants.
The victory halted a five-game St. Louis losing streak.
Randy Winn's solo homer in the fourth put the Cards ahead for good. Feliz -- obtained this week from Houston -- made it 2-0 in next frame with an RBI triple and added an eighth-inning run-scoring single.
Giants starter Tim Lincecum (11-8) lasted 5 1/3 innings, coughing up four runs on six hits in dropping to 0-4 in August.
Jose Guillen had two hits and drove in a run for San Francisco.
