LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Colorado Rockies outfielder Brad Hawpe was released by the National League club Thursday.

Hawpe, 31, was hitting .255 with seven homers and 37 RBI in 88 games this year. He was to become a free agent at the end of the season.

A .280 lifetime hitter, Hawpe spent all seven of his major league seasons with the Rockies. He hit 118 homers and collected 464 RBI in 816 games.

His best season was 2007 when the Rockies reached the World Series. That year he hit .291 with 29 homers and 116 RBI in 152 games.

Hawpe's exit created a roster opening for pitcher Matt Reynolds, who was called up from Class AAA Colorado Springs.
