Padres' Gwynn goes on DL

CHICAGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- San Diego Padres placed outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a broken bone in his right hand.

The National League club called up pitcher Ryan Webb from its Class AAA team in Portland to take Gwynn's spot on the roster.

Gwynn, who fractured the hamate bone, is hitting .212 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 103 games this season.

Webb had been with the Padres from May 4 to Aug. 7, posting a 3-1 record and 3.05 earned run average in 39 games this year.
