PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Jonathan Sanchez gave up just two hits in eight innings Thursday and San Francisco salvaged the final game of the series with a 5-2 win over Philadelphia.
Sanchez (9-8) struck out seven and walked two. The two hits off Sanchez came from Shane Victorino, who singled with two away in the third and again leading off the ninth.
Sergio Romo relieved Sanchez after Victorino's ninth-inning hit and eventually gave up a two-run double to Mike Sweeney. Brian Wilson was called on to get the final out for his 34th save.
Buster Posey keyed the San Francisco offense with RBI doubles in both the first and third innings. Pablo Sandoval hit a homer in the fourth.
Philadelphia stayed 2 1/2 games behind division-leading Atlanta in the National League East. San Francisco remained 6 1/2 games back of San Diego in the National League West, but crawled within a game of the Phillies in the NL wild card chase.
Cole Hamels (7-10) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings. Philadelphia had won its previous four games.
