HOUSTON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Houston Astros closer Matt Lindstrom went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of an ailing back.

Lindstrom, 34, has struggled this season, posting a 2-4 record with a 4.15 earned run average in 44 appearances. He has converted 22 of 28 save chances.

The National League club called up left-hander Fernando Abad from Class AA Round Rock to take Lindstrom's roster spot.

Abad is a combined 4-3 with a 2.35 ERA in 19 games at Round Rock and Class AA Corpus Christi. He threw a scoreless inning in his big league debut July 28 against the Chicago Cubs.
