
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Yuniesky Betancourt had three RBI Wednesday, Mitch Maier delivered a two-run triple and Kansas City held off a Cleveland rally to down the Indians 9-7.
The Royals built a 9-4 lead through six innings en route to their fourth win in five games.
Betancourt had a two-run single in the fourth and hit a solo homer in the sixth. Maier's triple came in the second and put Kansas City in front for good at 3-1.
Bruce Chen (8-6) gave up 11 hits and four runs in 5 2/3 innings but still picked up the victory.
Cleveland closed within 9-7 with a three-run eighth, two of the runs coming in on a double by Shin-Soo Choo.
The Indians then put two on with one out in the ninth against Joakim Soria and Jason Donald drove a ball to deep right that was run down by Maier. Trevor Crowe flew out to left to end the game, bringing Soria his 35th save.
Fausto Carmona (11-11) took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in five innings. The Indians have dropped eight out of 10.
