NASHVILLE, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The Tennessee Titans have signed journeyman running back Samkon Gado after waiving injured rookie running back Stafon Johnson.
Johnson, 22, an undrafted rookie out of Southern California, underwent surgery Sunday to repair a dislocated right ankle. He suffered the injury in a 20-18 pre-season loss to Seattle Saturday.
Last September, Jonson endured a weight-room accident when a 275-barbell fell on his throat, crushing his vocal cords and Adam's apple, but recovered.
Gado, a 27-year-old native of Nigeria, spent parts of the last two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, mainly on special teams. It was his fourth team in five seasons.
Gado had his best season as a rookie for Green Bay in 2005. He started five games and saw action in eight, racking up 582 yards on 143 carries and six touchdowns.
