Former NBA player Orlando Woolridge arrested for theft
HOUSTON, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Hunter Pence's home run in the eighth inning proved to be the decisive blow Tuesday in the Houston Astros' 4-3 won over the New York Mets.
Pence, who hit two home runs off Johan Santana (10-7) in the game, broke a 3-3 tie with a one-out solo shot that carried the Astros to their fourth win in their last five games.
Santana went the distance, giving up nine hits and striking out seven in New York's third loss in four games.
Mark Melancon (1-0) gave up a game-tying home run to David Wright in the top of the eighth but picked up his first Major League victory to go along with his first blown save thanks to Pence's homer. Wilton Lopez worked the scoreless ninth to secure his first career save.
The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on an RBI single by Fernando Martinez but Houston came back with three in the bottom of the first on Pence's three-run homer.
