HOUSTON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- David Wright scored the go-ahead run on a ninth-inning wild pitch and the New York Mets went on to down Houston 3-1 Monday.
With the score tied 1-1, Wright singled and went to third on Carlos Beltran's one-out hit off Matt Lindstrom (2-4). The Houston closer then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Wright to come home.
The Mets made it 3-1 when Jeff Francoeur followed with a triple to drive in Beltran.
Hisanori Takahashi -- filling in for injured closer Francisco Rodriguez -- tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his first save and give New York a win in the first of four games at Minute Maid Park.
Wright finished 3-for-4 and Beltran had two hits and an RBI. Mets starter Jonathan Niese allowed only one run on seven hits in seven innings.
