SEATTLE, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Tennessee Titans rookie running back Stafon Johnson is likely out for the season after suffering a dislocated ankle Saturday.
The injury -- suffered during a 20-18 Titans loss to Seattle in the team's NFL preseason opener -- was another blow to Johnson, whose senior season at the University of Southern California was cut short by a near-fatal weightlifting accident.
"Bouncing back from trials and tribulations, this is just a bump in the road," Johnson told The (Nashville) Tennessean. "God has brought me back this far, and it felt good to be where I'd gotten to. This is minimum compared to what I have been through, really."
Team officials said Johnson would undergo surgery on the ankle Sunday.
"He has been through so much, and persevered," Titans fullback Ahmar Hallsaid told the newspaper. "To see that happen to him in a first preseason game, it is heartbreaking. It is like, 'What else can happen to the guy?'"
