CLEVELAND, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Josh Bard hit his first MLB grand slam during a five-run fifth Saturday, lifting the Seattle Mariners to a 9-3 win over Cleveland.
Bard had a season-best four hits and scored twice, helping Seattle win a road series for the first time in six weeks.
After Russell Branyan broke a 2-2 deadlock with a solo homer in the fifth, the Mariners loaded the bases for Bard. He then drove his third homer of the year to right off reliever Hector Ambriz.
Casey Kotchman hit a solo homer in the sixth as part of a 13-hit Seattle attack.
Jason Vargas (9-5) benefited from the largest Seattle run total since May 21 to pick up the win. He gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings.
Cleveland lost for the sixth time in seven games.
Mitch Talbot (8-10) took the loss after being activated off the disabled list earlier in the day. He surrendered six runs, four of them earned, on eight hits in four-plus innings.
