CHESTER, Pa., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Fabian Espindola took advantage of a defensive lapse in the 18th minute to score a goal Wednesday that lifted Real Salt Lake into 1-1 tie with Philadelphia.
Philadelphia recorded its second straight road draw, but missed out on a chance at victory because of a miscue deep in its own end of the field.
The Union had taken the lead in the 8th minute on a goal by Danny Mwanga and it took Salt Lake just 10 minutes to produce the equalizer.
Philadelphia defender Juan Diego Gonzalez failed on a clearing attempt just outside the penalty area and Espindola quickly collected the ball. He avoided a defender and put one past Chris Seitz.
Salt Lake is 10-4-6 and moved within four points of Los Angeles for first place in the Western Conference.
Philadelphia (4-10-4) remained four points in front of D.C. United in the East in a battle to stay out of last place.
