Selanne to play another season for Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Veteran forward Teemu Selanne said Monday he is coming back to the Anaheim Ducks for another season.

The 40-year-old Finnish great confirmed speculation he would come back for an 18th NHL season via a Twitter message sent to the team's Web site. "After thinking about it for the last few months, I've decided to return to play for the Ducks," he tweeted.

"I'm excited about the summer additions the team has made. I know this team can win."

Though his 2009-10 season was plagued with injuries, Selanne set some career milestones. Among them was passing the 600-goal mark, becoming only the third European-born player in league history to reach that level.

Selanne also passed Hall-of-Famer and five-time Stanley Cup champion Jari Kurri for most goals scored in a career by a Finnish-born player.
