Former NBA player Orlando Woolridge arrested for theft
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Raul Ibanez belted a three-run homer to highlight a big third inning Sunday and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on for a 6-5 win over the New York Mets.
Jason Werth (3-for-4) smacked a solo homer in the second to cut the Phillies' deficit to 2-1, and then Philadelphia exploded for five runs in the next frame.
Ross Gload collected an RBI single in front of Ibanez's big blast, and Brian Schneider capped the assault with a single to drive in Werth, making it 6-2.
The Mets chipped away at Phillies ace Roy Halladay (14-8) with RBI from Angel Pagan, Ruben Tejada and Chris Carter, but closer Brad Lidge collected his 14th save in the ninth to nail down the win.
The victory gave the Phillies the rubber match of a three-game contest with the Mets and kept them within two games of Atlanta in the National League East.
Mets starter R.A. Dickey (7-5) lasted only three innings, yielding six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
