TORONTO, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Nana Attakora and Chad Barrett scored first-period goals Saturday and Toronto FC hung on to defeat Chivas USA 2-1.
Defender Attakora jumped over the defense in the 6-yard box to head the ball past Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in the 21st minute for his first goal of the season.

Toronto (7-6-5) made it 2-0 11 minutes later when Barrett found the goal from inside the penalty area after a service into the box by Jacob Peterson was deflected to him by Maicon Santos.
Chivas USA (5-10-3) made it a one-goal game on a 67th-minute Giancarlo Maldonado penalty kick following a handball by a Toronto defender in the area.
