ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Delmon Young singled home Alexi Casilla from third with nobody out in the 13th inning Wednesday, giving the Minnesota Twins a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.

The Rays tied it with a run in the ninth, and then were unable to take advantage of a two-on, two-out situation in the 10th.

Casilla walked off Lance Cormier (3-3) to open the 13th and went to third on a hit by Joe Mauer. Young then singled to left-center, bringing home Casilla and giving the Twins a chance for a big inning.

Two fly balls and a groundout, however, left Minnesota with just one run -- but that was enough for Matt Guerrier (2-6), who retired the side in both the 12th and 13th innings for the win.

Minnesota remained 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. Tampa Bay fell back into a share of the lead with the New York Yankees in the AL East.

The Twins took the lead in the second when Danny Valencia reached on a two-out infield single and scored on Jason Repko's double.

Dan Johnson singled home Evan Longoria with one away in the ninth to force extra innings.
