NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Toronto outfielder Jose Bautista and Tampa Bay pitcher Matt Garza were selected the American League players of the week, the league office said Monday.

Bautista had home runs in four of the Blue Jays' six games, giving him an American League-best 32 homers this season. He had eight hits during a three-game Toronto sweep of Baltimore and hit .545 with 13 runs batted in for the week July 26-Aug. 1.

Bautista closed out July with a league-high 11 home runs.

Garza last week became the fifth major league pitcher this season to throw a no-hitter when he beat the Tigers 5-0 July 26. It was the first no-hitter in Rays' history. His other start last week was a seven-inning no decision against the New York Yankees in which Garza struck out nine.

Other players considered for AL player of the week honors were Minnesota's Francisco Liriano, Joe Mauer, Danny Valencia and Delmon Young, Boston's David Ortiz, Chicago White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd and Tampa Bay pitcher James Shields.
