ST. LOUIS, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Aaron Miles went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to back a strong start by Adam Wainwright Sunday in the St. Louis Cardinals' 9-1 pounding of Pittsburgh.
Miles's sacrifice fly in the third inning tied the score 1-1 and his two-run single highlighted a three-run eighth for the Cardinals, who swept their three-game series with the Pirates and maintained a half-game lead over Cincinnati in the National League Central.
Matt Holliday hit an inside-the-park homer and Albert Pujols connected for a two-run shot in the Cardinals' 14-hit attack.
Wainwright (15-6) went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate and was tough on the mound, limiting the Pirates to one run on six hits over seven innings. He bounced back from his worst start of the year to become the major leagues' second 15-game winner and raise his home record to 11-0.
Zach Duke (5-10) absorbed the loss for Pittsburgh, surrendering six runs on six hits over five innings.
