DENVER, July 30 (UPI) -- Pitcher Carlos Zambrano, on the team's restricted list for more than a month, was reinstated Friday by the Chicago Cubs.
Zambrano was removed from the Cubs' active roster after a June 25 incident in which he had a heated confrontation with teammates, including first baseman Derrek Lee. He underwent anger management therapy during his suspension.
Zambrano opened the season in the starting rotation but was moved to the bullpen in April before being returned to the starter's role. He started a game against the Chicago White Sox June 25 and allowed four runs in the first inning, after which the dugout incident occurred.
Zambrano is 3-6 with a 5.66 earned run average. He's appeared in 22 games this season, starting nine.
To make room for Zambrano on the active roster, the Cubs gave relief pitcher Bob Howry his unconditional release. Howry was 0-3 with a 5.66 ERA in 24 games since joining the team in May.
