Youzhny loses quarterfinal to qualifier

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 30 (UPI) -- Qualifier Yuri Schukin ousted top-seeded Mikhail Youzhny in three sets Friday and moved into the semifinals of the Allianz Suisse Open in Switzerland.

Schukin, ranked No. 147 in the world, defeated Youzhny, the world No. 14, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Schukin won just one more point (97-96) than Youzhny in the match but was able to get an advantage late in the third set with the set's only break.

He'll next go against seventh-seeded Richard Gasquet, who also advanced on an upset. Gasquet stopped No. 4-seeded Albert Montanes 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, winning just three more points (80-77) over the course of the match.

The other semifinal Saturday has second-seeded Nicolas Almagro taking on Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

Almagro handled Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) behind four service breaks. Gimeno-Traver was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Igor Andreev, claiming 57 percent of the match's points.
