Sharapova reaches Palo Alto quarterfinals

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 30 (UPI) -- Maria Sharapova, seeking her third tournament title of the year, reached the quarterfinals Thursday at the Bank of the West Classic in Palo Alto, Calif.

Sharapova, seeded fifth in the event, defeated Olga Govortsova 6-3, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Elena Dementieva.

Sixth-seeded Marion Bartoli also earned a quarterfinal berth, defeating Ivanovic 6-3, 6-4.

In other second-round matches, Victoria Azarenka was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Melanie Oudin and Maria Kirilenko ousted Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-3.

Bartoli will face Azarenka in the quarterfinals, Kirilenko will play Agnieszka Radwanska and Samantha Stosur will meet Yanina Wickmayer.
