LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) -- Defending champion Sam Querrey dominated the third set Wednesday in advancing to the quarterfinals of the Farmers Classic tennis tournament in Los Angeles.

Querrey, the No. 2 seed, was a 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-0 winner over Kevin Anderson. The match was very even -- Anderson won one more point than Querrey over the first two sets -- until the third set when Querrey won two-thirds of the points and Anderson managed to win just five points on serve.

Querrey will go against Rainer Schuettler in Friday's quarterfinals. Schuettler was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 winner over Robby Ginepri on Wednesday, losing his serve just twice in the match.

Third-seeded Marcos Baghdatis also needed three sets to get past Ryan Sweeting 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Baghdatis had 11 aces and five service breaks. No. 6-seeded Janko Tipsarevic ousted Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 and earned a quarterfinal slot against Baghdatis.

In second-round matches Thursday top-seeded Andy Murray will face Tim Smyczek and No. 4-seed Feliciano Lopez will meet Dudi Sela.
