MLB: Boston 4, Los Angeles Angels 2

ANAHEIM, Calif., July 28 (UPI) -- John Lackey pitched into the eighth against his former teammates Tuesday and got the win in the Boston Red Sox 4-2 victory over Los Angeles Angels.

Lackey (10-5), who spent eight seasons in Anaheim before signing with the Red Sox as a free agent during the off-season, allowed two runs on seven hits and led Boston to its fourth win in six games.

Jed Lowrie drove in two runs for Boston and Adrian Beltre added an RBI. Jonathan Papelbon notched his 24th save.

Jered Weaver (9-7) took the loss despite six strong innings. Weaver gave up two runs in the seventh and finished the night with six hits allowed and eight strikeouts.

Bobby Abreu had a solo home run and two RBI for the Angels, who have lost three straight.
