Titans sue USC over coach's hiring

NASHVILLE, July 26 (UPI) -- The Tennessee Titans are suing the University of Southern California for interfering with the contract of a Titans coach, documents indicated Monday.

A lawsuit filed in Davidson County, Tenn., Chancery Court by the NFL team targets USC and its head football coach, Lane Kiffin, for "maliciously" interfering with the contract of Tennessee running backs coach Kennedy Pola, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

A weekend announcement by USC that it had hired Pola as its new offensive coordinator brought an angry reaction from Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, a USC alum, who said he was upset by the tactics Kiffin used to hire Pola.

The newspaper said the lawsuit claims that "as a result of USC and Kiffin's tortuous conduct, Tennessee (Titans) football has been damaged in an amount proven at trial."
