Jamie McMurray wins Brickyard 400

INDIANAPOLIS, July 25 (UPI) -- Jamie McMurray hung on to win the Brickyard 400 Sunday after holding off late challenges by Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle at Indianapolis.

McMurray and several others took advantage of a caution period with 23 laps left to overtake Carlos Montoya, replacing only two tires while Montoya -- who led for 86 of the race's 160 laps -- elected to replace four tires, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Until the caution, Montoya appeared to be in a position to avenge his disappointing loss of last year when he also led for most of the race. But he faded, eventually hitting the wall and finishing 32nd, the Times said.

McMurray's win gave team co-owner Chip Ganassi wins at the Brickyard 400, the Indy 500, the Daytona 500.

Harvick ended in second and Biffle finished third. Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart rounded out the Top 5.

Reigning Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, who held the second position at the start start, fell to 22nd.
