Contador defends Tour de France crown

PARIS, July 25 (UPI) -- Defending champion Alberto Contador claimed his third Tour de France title in four years Sunday with a ceremonial ride along the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The Spaniard finished 39 seconds ahead of Luxembourg's Andy Schleck after the 20th and final Tour de France stage, a 64-mile sprint from Longjumeau to the Champs-Elysees, making it the fifth-closest margin in tour history.

Schleck was the yellow jersey-holder until Monday's Stage 15, when he dropped a chain late in the run through the Pyrenees Mountains.

The Stage 20 winner was Great Britain's Mark Cavendish, who took the section in 2:42:21. It was his fifth stage win in the 2010 tour, one fewer than last year's total.
