Kobe Bryant has knee surgery

LOS ANGELES, July 23 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Lakers announced Friday that Kobe Bryant had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

A statement released by the team said the procedure was performed last week and Bryant is expected to have a full recovery prior to the start of training camp Sept. 25.

Bryant was named MVP of the NBA Finals for the second straight year after the Lakers captured the league crown. He averaged 27 points per contest in 73 games last season.
