Rookie leads Canadian Open

TORONTO, July 22 (UPI) -- Rookie Brent Delahoussaye, who has made the cut just three times in his 12 PGA Tour appearances, grabbed the first-round lead Thursday at the Canadian Open.

Delahoussaye produced a surprising 8-under 62 in the opening round at the St. George's Golf and Country Club course to take a two-shot advantage over Vance Veazey and Brock Mackenzie.

The group at 64 included former American Ryder Cup team member Hunter Mahan.

In his biggest splash to date on the PGA circuit, Delahoussaye had seven birdies and eagled the par-5 ninth hole.

Veazey and Mackenzie are also unfamiliar to the tour spotlight as they make a bid for the highest finish of their careers.

Veazey is in his first full-time tour season and has made the cut four times in 14 tournaments. Mackenzie, a regular on the Nationwide Tour, has made the cut on the PGA Tour just once in his career and that came six years ago.
